For the three junior ODIs against Australia U-19, which are scheduled to start on September 18, 2026, Lakshya Raichandani has been selected as captain of the India U-19 team. In an important junior-level assignment, the 17-year-old Uttarakhand top-order batsman who also bowls right-arm off-spin will captain the team.
He hit 207 runs in his most memorable international innings against Sri Lanka U19. The knock demonstrated his ability to adjust his innings to the circumstances while staying focused for a considerable amount of time at the crease.
He now joins a group of young Indian captains, such as Virat Kohli, Mohammad Kaif, Prithvi Shaw, and Ayush Mhatre, who have gone on to hold important positions in the game. But with the big Australia series coming up, he suddenly has a formidable obstacle.
In an interview with IndiaTV, Lakshya said, “I am very excited. It’s a matter of honour. It’s also a huge responsibility and an added responsibility. I want to lead the team by ensuring that everyone feels included, and I am really looking forward to it.”
Anvay Dravid, the son of former India head coach and legendary batsman Rahul Dravid, and Aaryavir Sehwag, the son of renowned India opener Virender Sehwag, are on the team for the series. Prior to the series, strategy talks were planned to take place during the India U-19 camp, which started on September 9, 2026. After the ODI leg, which is set for September 28–October 8, 2026, Raichandani will be vice-captain for two unofficial Test matches.
He further said, “I haven’t had a chat with anyone yet. Our camp starts on 9th September, so we will meet there and discuss the strategy to drive the team. However, if you ask me, I want to build a positive environment and keep the best interests of the team ahead of my own. I want to back everyone and make sure that they don’t feel the pressure. I hope we drive towards the same goal and everyone puts their best foot forward.”
