Kieron Pollard Joins Joburg Super Kings for R1.5 Million in SA20 2027 Auction

At the SA20 2027 auction, Joburg Super Kings acquired Kieron Pollard, the West Indian all-rounder, for his base price of R1.5 million. No competing franchise bid, and the transaction closed without opposition. The SA20 League has confirmed the signing, with Pollard scheduled to don the yellow jersey of the Super Kings franchise for the next season. Pollard had previously played for MI Cape Town in the SA20 but was let go by that franchise before the 2027 auction.

This decision concludes Pollard’s extended association with MI, which encompassed his stints with MI Cape Town in the SA20, MI New York in Major League Cricket ( MLC), and MI Emirates in the International League T20 (ILT20). The SA20 league’s official Twitter account stated, “ Joburg Super Kings immediately bids on Kieron Pollard, and the bid goes unopposed. The West Indian will wear the yellow jersey at BetwaySA20 for R1.5 million.

The SA20 2027 auction occurred on October 7, 2026, with bidding starting at 8:30 pm IST. On that day, four franchises were actively bidding. Paarl Royals and Durban’s Super Giants had finalised their squads prior to the auction and were not seeking more players.

JSK joined the auction with six positions still open and R20.6 million left in their budget. The franchise had retained 12 players ahead of the event, including Rilee Rossouw, James Vince, Akeal Hosein, Leus du Plooy, Duan Jansen and Jason Holder, who was pre-signed. Albie Morkel is the head coach for the fifth edition of the tournament.

Pollard is currently the batting coach for Mumbai Indians and also serves as head coach for MI London in The Hundred tournament in the UK. He remains active with MI Emirates and MI New York in the ILT20 and MLC leagues. By joining JSK, a four-time playoff participant aiming for their first SA20 championship, Pollard seeks to bolster their chances of success. As of now, Sunrisers Eastern Cape ( SEC) have claimed the SA20 title three times, while MI Cape Town secured one victory in 2025.

During his 12 years with Mumbai Indians in the IPL ( 2010–2022), Pollard made significant contributions against CSK, scoring 583 runs in 27 matches at an average of 36.44, with four fifties and a highest score of 87 not out. He also claimed 14 wickets at an average of 27.57.
