The International Cricket Council confirmed on October 5, 2026 that both India and West Indies have been sanctioned for slow over-rates during the third and final ODI of their three-match series, held in New Chandigarh on October 3, 2026.
India incurred a 20 per cent fine of their match fees after being found four overs short of the required over-rate, while West Indies were fined 10 per cent for falling two overs short, with time allowances accounted for, according to the International Cricket Council ( ICC) website.
The punishments were imposed by match referee Prakash Bhatt, who is a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. There was no need to have a formal disciplinary hearing because both captains filed guilty pleas and agreed to the suggested sanctions. On-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski officially filed the charges; third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virender Sharma were also named as officiating members who raised the issue.
The ODI part of the West Indies’ trip to India ended on a noteworthy note at New Chandigarh, even though they had already lost the series 2-0. They successfully chased a target of 352 runs, their most successful run chase in men’s ODIs, with an unbeaten 162 from Shai Hope. Now, both teams will concentrate on the forthcoming Twenty20 International (T20I) series, which starts on October 6 and consists of five matches.
At the location in New Chandigarh, also known as Mullanpur, the third ODI resulted in a high-scoring match. India set a difficult goal of 351 for 7 in their allotted overs, but West Indies surpassed it and won the series’ last game by five wickets.
The outcome ensured that the visitors’ 2026–27 ODI leg of the West Indies tour of India ended on a positive note. The outcome of the game had no influence on the fines imposed because slow over-rate sanctions under ICC standards are evaluated regardless of the outcome of the match. Before this last match, the series had already been won, and the disciplinary decisions are only related to how quickly each team bowled that day.
