“He is the best example for any cricketer to watch” - Vijay Shankar heaps praise on veteran Indian batter

Former Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has showered praise on the Indian keeper-batter KL Rahul, who scored an exceptional unbeaten century in the third and final ODI against the West Indies in New Chandigarh.

Speaking on Ravi Ashwin’s YouTube channel, Shankar asserted that Rahul bats in a difficult position and always finds ways to score runs in different situations. Notably, Rahul scored an unbeaten 129 off 87 balls with 10 fours and six sixes.

“It is a very difficult role. Sometimes you might lose early wickets and have to go early. Sometimes you may not get to bat at all. As a batter, you always have to be ready for anything. The way he does it, he is finding ways to score runs every time. He is able to score in any situation and comes in and does what the team needs. He is the best example for any cricketer to watch,” Shankar said.

Further, the former all-rounder reckoned that batting at No.5 for a longer period of time helped the veteran batter to figure out what he needs to do in different situations and milk out runs. Despite Rahul’s heroics, India suffered a five-wicket defeat as the visitors chased the target in 48.2 overs.

“It is also good that he is consistently playing at that position because then you can figure out what you need to do coming in during those situations. His numbers are unbelievable and for him to do it consistently over a period of time is amazing. In big games, no matter what the top three do, what the number 5 or 6 does will decide the match,” he added.

The action now shifts to the five-match T20I series between India and West Indies, scheduled to commence on Tuesday, October 6 in Lucknow.
