The Adelaide Strikers are thrilled to announce that New Zealand international Mark Chapman has joined the team for the full BBL|16 season. Chapman is joining the Strikers following his recent decision to step down from his New Zealand central contract in order to explore franchise opportunities globally.
A powerful middle-order batsman, Chapman offers extensive experience and leadership drawn from a 12-year international career, marked by standout performances at ICC T20 World Cups, ODI World Cups, and Champions Trophy tournaments.
Chapman is a citizen of both New Zealand and Hong Kong. He first played for Hong Kong internationally in 2014, and after standout performances in New Zealand’s domestic competitions, he was invited to join the Black Caps in 2018. He has since gained experience in the ICC T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions Trophy tournaments.
Chapman has recently stepped down from his New Zealand central contract in order to explore franchise opportunities in international leagues. He played for Islamabad United in PSL 2026, scoring 69 off just 33 balls, and also featured for Washington Freedom with Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell, coached by Ricky Ponting.
In an official statement, Chapman said, “I’m thrilled to be joining the Adelaide Strikers and becoming part of such an exciting group. When you look at the talent in the squad and the direction the club is heading, it’s easy to see why there’s so much excitement around the team. The opportunity to play at Adelaide Oval in front of passionate fans, alongside world-class players like Ben Stokes and Matt Short was a huge drawcard, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Chapman joins the Strikers with a proven track record of excelling in high-pressure scenarios across international cricket and franchise tournaments. In 2023, he scored an unbeaten 104 against Pakistan and was awarded Player of the Series. In July 2026, he hit 80 against the West Indies in a T20I, aiding New Zealand in winning the match.
His experience in various formats and leagues provides the Strikers with a flexible batsman capable of boosting the run rate at any point during an innings. His 69 off 33 balls in the PSL 2026 for Islamabad United showed his ability to rapidly change the game’s momentum in T20 cricket.
