Bangladesh have named a 15-player squad for their single Test match against Afghanistan, set to take place in the United Arab Emirates starting October 9, with Najmul Hossain Shanto retaining his role as captain. Bangladesh’s squad continues to feature a solid mix of seasoned and up-and-coming players as they gear up for their upcoming Test match, following a strong performance against Australia last month.
The team is centred on seasoned middle-order batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque, who have played pivotal roles in Bangladesh’s Test batting lineup for years. Soumya Sarkar offers a left-handed batting option at the top of the order, complementing specialist openers Tanzid Hasan and Shadman Islam. Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy bring additional batting strength, and Jaker Ali Anik is added as a backup wicketkeeper.
Bangladesh have added two key spinners, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam, to their squad, while their pace attack includes Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, and Shoriful Islam. Nayeem Hasan, Musfik Hasan, and Iqbal Hossain Emon have been designated as travelling reserves and will join the squad in the UAE.
This standalone Test match is part of a larger international multi-format series in the UAE during October and November 2026, with Afghanistan set to host both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The broader programme features an ODI tri-series featuring all three countries, along with T20I and Test series between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh delivered a stunning nine-wicket win over Australia in the opening Test in Darwin, securing their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil. Hasan Mahmud claimed six wickets for 55 runs in Australia’s first innings, and Tanzid Hasan became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a Test century there.
