Afghanistan will welcome the Men in Blue at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi tomorrow, marking the start of India’s next Twenty20 International match at home. Shreyas Iyer will be in charge of the team, which includes well-known players like Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah. As the focus shifts to established talents, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will also be competing and eager to use his powerful batting to take centre stage.
Since making his T20I debut against England in July 2026, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has had a significant impact on international cricket. With two fifties and 193 runs in six Twenty20 International games, the left-handed top-order hitter has consistently performed at the highest level. Both team management and cricket analysts have taken notice of his aggressive style, which is shown in his strike rate of 189.21.
Sooryavanshi, who made his debut for India at the age of 15, has had a mixed start to his career. The left-handed opener has already scored 193 runs at a strike rate of 189.21 in six games, including two fifties.
Former India cricketer Vivek Razdan discussed Sooryavanshi’s rise to prominence at a roundtable meeting with a few media outlets on September 12. Razdan underlined that far from being premature, the teen’s development has been organic and well-earned.
In a press conference, Razdan said, “You cannot really escape exposing him because he has already played in the IPL. It is not as if you are rushing him too soon. He has already done something remarkable. Everyone needs to understand that miracles are not made, they are born. We have seen such miracles in cricket before, and Vaibhav is one of them.”
Razdan recognised Sooryavanshi’s upcoming task and the particular demands of Twenty20 cricket. Although the teenager’s first year has been successful, the former cricketer emphasised the significance of consistent performance over time. Razdan clarified that the real litmus test for Sooryavanshi’s growth as a player and cricket player would be consistency across several seasons.
He further added, “T20 cricket is a different kind of game. He has had a fantastic first year, but moving forward, the challenge will be how he can repeat those performances year after year. That is what will take him, both as a player and as a cricketer, to another level.”
