Chris Gayle, a former West Indies cricket player, called Virat Kohli a “phenomenal” talent and said he hoped Kohli would play international cricket for as long as possible. In an interview during the World Championship of Legends, when he represented the West Indies Champions, Gayle, a colleague of Kohli at Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League, made the comments.
When discussing Kohli’s influence on international cricket, Gayle emphasised the Indian batter’s reliability and supremacy in all formats, especially in the IPL, where both players have participated. The legend from the West Indies based his opinions regarding Kohli’s professionalism and status among the top players in the sport on his personal experience playing alongside the Indian.
Gayle said, “The man is a legend, the man is unique, he is phenomenal. I cannot find any other word to actually uplift Virat because, as I said, everybody is calling him the King Kohli, he has done so much for the game of cricket as well, and hopefully he can carry on as long as possible, especially in the international scene. He has been dominant in the IPL as well. So, like I said, great guy, great person.”
In nine One Day Internationals (ODIs) this year, Kohli has amassed 552 runs at an average of 69.00 and a strike rate of 117.94, including two hundreds and three fifties, with a best score of 139 not out. He scored 168 runs in three innings during a recent series against the West Indies, including an undefeated 139 off 88 balls in the opening ODI while chasing a target of almost 290.
With 15,109 runs at an average of 58.78, 55 hundreds, 79 fifties, and a maximum score of 183, Kohli is the second-highest run scorer in ODI history. With an eye toward the 2027 ODI World Cup, the run-chaser will carry on with his career as an ODI-only player. He will play in three ODIs at home against Sri Lanka starting on December 13 and in a five-match ODI series away from home against New Zealand starting on November 4.
