Potts, who joined Durham at age nine, progressed through the route and Academy setup and made his debut in 2017, has signed a contract through at least the end of the 2029 season. The 27-year-old seamer has taken over 450 wickets in his career, totalling 376 in 141 games for the Club.

BBC quotes Potts saying, “I feel like I still have a lot more to give to this club. I owe the club a hell of a lot from early investment through the academy and I hold it dear. We are building something within the dressing room, it’s taken a couple of years, but I feel like we’re heading in the right direction. This group is really exciting.”
The batsman, born in Sunderland, had his best result of nine for 68 against Lancashire in 2024, with match statistics of 12/126. In June, he achieved his fourth 10-wicket match haul with eight for 66 against Derbyshire. With 87 poles for Durham in the shortest format, including his 5/17 against Yorkshire the previous season, Potts is the Club’s third-highest T20 wicket-taker. His 19 wickets during the 2026 Vitality Blast set a record for Durham.
Potts’ performance throughout the 2026 County Championship campaign is reflected in the timing of the extension. At an average of 17.98, he has taken 52 wickets in Division Two this season, more than any other bowler in either division of the Championship.
The key to Durham’s push for promotion has been their consistency with the ball. The county is in a strong position to return to the top division at the end of the 2026 season, having been among the leaders in Division Two. Throughout the season, Potts’s propensity to take wickets in large quantities has frequently changed the tide in Durham’s favour.
